The Ann Stokes
Ann Stokes started her career aboard the USS Ship Red Rover. She worked and traveled with the ship being a African American Nurse up and down the Ohio, Mississippi river’s and their tributaries for over 18 months. She a contraband was the first Navy Nurse to receive her pension.
